Dental Pain Management Protocol

For healthy adults.

Please consult with your primary care physician if you have any problems with your kidneys, liver, stomach or have a history of asthma, heart attack, stroke or are on blood thinners.

For pain:

Maximum 24 hour dose of Ibuprofen: 3200mg
Maximum 24 hour dose of Tylenol: 3000mg

Initial recommended dose: 600mg Ibuprofen + 1000mg Tylenol (2 extra strength capsules)

Every 4-6 hours: Take 600mg Ibuprofen as needed

Every 8 hours: Take 1000mg Tylenol as needed

Pain from infections will typically decrease 48 hours after taking antibiotics. As with any pain medication, the lowest effective dose should be taken. It is best to avoid pain medication on an empty stomach. Once pain is controlled, medications should be reduced or discontinued. This pain management regimen is intended for the control of acute (short term) pain and is not intended to be a long-term solution. As always, if you are unsure, please don’t hesitate to contact us or your primary care physician.
